Bill Would Not Add Much to Presidential Powers: MP

TEHRAN, June 30 (Mehr News Agency) – The Guardian Council is doing its best to defend body's supervisory rights, the Majlis deputy representing Savojbolaq, Ja’far Golbaz said on Monday calling for relaxation of the council's sensitivity on the bill for expanded presidential powers.

"I think the bill would not add much to the president’s power and the GC opposition to it is senseless,” he said.

Golbaz, who is a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said that since some Guardian Council members were not present in the session reviewing articles of the bill, the Committee made the necessary amendments to some of the articles.

"In light of current circumstances, it would have been better if the bill on boosting the president's powers were not tabled," he added, "Because in practice the bill would not add much to presidential powers."
